XFM radio’s Mary Anne Hobbs doesn’t ask for permission. She just reaches through the speakers and grabs you. Mary knows exactly what she’s doing to her young listeners with her voice. It’s molestation, really.

Or it’s the mark of a good DJ selector. Not only is the track swishy, but she made me pay attention to it. My attention shifts as I’m passed from the palm of her hand to the hands of the song’s producers.
As soon as the tune find its footing, Mary Anne’s voice sounds out of place, which is a testament to the track, where any outside noise begins to sound like it’s invading the tune by Artifact and Thefft. Titled “Cow Hop,” there are two elements which make this track a standout. While the vocal sample serves as the song’s official branding, the sub bassline is what’s truly creative. It’s got a wily hop.
So what’s so “cow” about it? You’re not supposed to ask that.
Look forward to more from breakthrough Bristol producer Artifact and London’s Thefft by following their respective SoundClouds below. Don’t forget to peep the mighty Mary Anne Hobbs on XFM as well. The legendary UK DJ is more of a juggernaut than most of the young men she pushes, but she’d never admit it.
