Thursday Thump investigates low, menacing thumps heard lately around the bass world.
We got heavily salted and peppered the past few days.
Floss and Deniro said they’d lightly season me with spacy trap beats, but Darq and Danny took advantage and tossed me right into their stew. Maybe Floss meant to say “beets?” I think I’m ready to go into the oven. Let’s do this in order of preparation.

Late last week, the blogs got defrosted by Chicago DJ duo Flosstradamus & Charlotte NOR’CAROLINA’s Deniro Farrar with “Look at the Sky.” The track references “Halcyon On and On” by Orbital. Yes, that’s the same track you knew for years as “that song from Mortal Kombat.” This one spins skyward on the tail of that comet.

I knew I had this week’s Thursday Thump in the bag. Then I got run up and smacked by “Blueberry (Pills and Cocaine),” in which the UK’s Darq E Freaker and Detroit’s Danny Brown jumped on my torso for three minutes. They said they were tenderizing me, but I was just glad that Danny was back to his usual unpredictable self. “Grown Up” was a dope tribute to Danny’s past lyrical styles, but it wasn’t hittin’ like these pills and these cocaines.

As I was wiping myself dry and prepping to post a rich, flavorful Thursday Thump, the Manchester moonman Star Slinger came bowling in and tackled me with a cannonball dive to the body. He had already remixed and enhanced the flow of “Blueberry” in his usual stellar style. Check the work ethic on this dude–currently touring the US and still blowing up the internet weekly.
Cooked and bruised, I still had a fresh set of tracks for my Thursday. I couldn’t stay mad.
Plastic wrap your speakers else they catch all the spit.
