I didn’t download Mungolian Jetset‘s “Toccata” because I liked the two note melody. I nabbed it because of the turn at 1:41. And because it was free.
In “Toccata,” the quirk surfing Norwegian duo reworked the original track by Jaga Jazzist. They even let the original vibraphone sample play long enough for you to wonder if an indie group snuck into your dance feed again. Then the melody takes a 90 degree turn to it’s counterpoint: a motivated, evenly polished, sanity pushing minor key.
Suddenly the fully charged song has enough ambition to sit in my gym playlist. Suddenly we’re back in the electronic music world.
It’s good to be back.
