You may want to pronounce it “T-Japan,” but TJPN stands for Tom “JP” Nicol.
Tom knows where the soul lies in a song. Released earlier this month on SoundCloud, “No You Won’t” proves how the 17 year old Chester UK producer practices finesse in choosing his samples. Like the well established Blawan, Nicol found a stash of emotion in recent American R&B.
It’s easy for us to forget that producers choose their samples carefully. Simply because we don’t hear a live person singing the lyrics, we shouldn’t assume they’re meaningless. The lyrics you hear on “No You Won’t” are very relevant to TJPN‘s desired effect.
TJPN infuses a feeling which I could swear wasn’t there when I first heard the tracks he references. Check his demo re-cut of Brandy’s “I Wanna Be Down” and the new jet “Tell Me Why We Should Stay” composed of Usher samples and the deep echoes of the Irish Sea.
TJPN takes you there.
