It’s only a few hours until Nick Garcia‘s Together set and “Visions” predicts an earthquake. The first minute of the track is quiet, like putting your ear to the ground and hearing tremors; then, whoa!
It’s not the first time I’ve been punched by one of Garcia’s tracks. I think it’s the LFO he uses that gives the music a certain sway. Whatever it is, he manages to make four/four kicks and offbeat hi hats sound fresh. It’s pure house for non purists.
Thus far, much of Garcia’s music has been like varying temperatures of house. First, I heard the soul clapping, long playing remix of Erykah Badu’s “On and On.” Months later, I heard “Bonjour,” which was the hardest hitting house I’d heard from him yet. Then, just as I’m about to put his music in a box, label it and wrap it with tape, he releases the balearic, superheated “This Fear” at 105 bpm. So, just to be safe…
Let’s keep our ears to the ground.
See him tonight at the Middlesex Lounge with Sophie (Numbers)
